“Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of the ages, distilled into a single word. You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it nor taste it. But you can feel it a hundred times a day. It is a pat on the back, a smile of encouragement. It’s someone to share with, to celebrate your achievements.” ~ Anonymous
I don’t have a biological sister yet reflecting on my life I never missed out on sisterhood… that’s the power of friendship. I had the joy of sharing closets, secrets, and stories with amazing girls, and now women, throughout my life. Each connection reaching so deep the only appropriate title is “sister’.
Sisterhood is a bond like no other; it’s rooted in our primal instinct to love one another through joy and hardship. When the feminine spirit comes together in sisterhood a sacred space of truth and trust is created and within that space anything is possible.
Over the years I have created sister bonds with amazing women around the globe, some I talk to often and others I rarely see but the beauty of sisterhood is it’s independent of time. When we come together we pick up right where we left off last time. We laugh, we share, we go deep, and we leave filled with love.
When I think of sisterhood, I’m reminded of my own Indian Ancestry with its many traditions that bring women together in song and dance. I may not sing and dance but I find myself creating my own traditions with my sisters through travel, cooking, exchanging photos, or sharing a simple message letting my sisters know I’m thinking of them.
I have deep gratitude for all the amazing women that have come into my life over the years and co-created a sisterhood bond that is timeless. And I look forward to the many sisters I have yet to connect with.
Take time today to reflect on the friendships in your life and have gratitude for the special ladies that surround you. They are not just “friends” they are your sisters.
